I
I was born and raised in Briantree
Massachusetts, just south of Boston. In high school I was enrolled in the AP
Portfolio class and that is where I discovered my love for clay. I went to
Maine College of Art in Portland Maine where I contemplated majoring in either
photography or ceramics, after watching an episode of the reality tv show
“Bridezillas” I decided to major in
ceramics because I didn’t want to be photographing weddings with a Bridezilla
for the rest of my life. Thus I decided to major in ceramics. While I was at
MECA I was making conceptual sculpture dealing with issues of gender, identity
and concept. All the work was slip cast made from commercially made molds and
molds I made myself. After college I
knew I wanted to go home to Boston and find a way to make work, I then found
Mudflat. I was able to join Mudflat’s faculty and start teaching kids and adult
classes. I enjoy taking workshops with other ceramics artists in the field and
I took a week long workshop at MECA with Kari Radasch where we learned how she
made her then work using bisque molds, this revolutionized the way I thought
about making functional work. In 2009 I took a two week workshop at Penland in
North Carolina with Ayumi Horie where we learned to dry throw and to use the
internet to its full potential for ceramics artists. Again this rocked my world
and I started to make Ayumi’s technique my own and use it as another means of
making, using the wheel as a tool. I am currently still teaching kids and
adults at Mudflat, working as a tech and now one of the newest Resident Artists
for Mudflat.
My work can be seen in person or online at the Mudflat
gallery in Porter Square Cambridge, and
Red Star Studios in Kansas City Missouri.
